A Look at the Seven Summits

A dedicated philanthropist and impact investor, Robert “Bo” Parfet serves as CEO and founder of Denali Venture Philanthropy, an impact investment company located outside of Denver, in Boulder, Colorado. Robert “Bo” Parfet is also an experienced mountain climber and has climbed the “seven summits,” or the seven tallest mountains in the world.

The objective to climb the seven tallest mountains on all seven continents began to gain popularity for mountaineers in the 1980s. Today, reaching the summit of all of the seven summits is still a popular mountaineering goal. Most experts recommend that those attempting the feat be experienced mountain climbers in good physical condition.

There is a generally accepted climbing order for the seven summits to help improve your chances of success by building on previously gained skills as you go. The first mountain attempted is usually Mount Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania. A dormant volcano, Mount Kilimanjaro stands at 19,340 feet, and is the only one of the seven summits that is a non-technical climb. After Kilimanjaro, Mt. Elbrus is typically next. Located in Russia, this mountain stands at 18,510 feet. The next is Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in South America at 22,841 feet, located in Argentina as part of the Andes mountain range.

Following these first three, Denali and Vinson are next, located in Alaska and Antarctica respectively. Mount Denali (previously called Mount McKinley) stands at 20,310 feet and is considered the most classic climb in North America, while Mount Vinson rises to a lower 16,066 feet. The sixth of the seven summits is the famous Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world at 29,035 feet. Finally, the last summit you need to reach in order to achieve the seven summits is the Carstensz Pyramid in West Papua. At just 16,023 feet, it is the smallest of the seven summits, but it is also the most technical climb, requiring rock climbing skills to reach the summit.

How You Can Become a Speaker with YPO and Inspire Young Leaders

Robert “Bo” Parfet is the founder of Denali Venture Philanthropy, an impact investing firm that funds entrepreneurs with the intention to generate measurable positive social or environmental impact alongside financial return.. Based in Boulder, a city just outside of Denver, Colorado, Robert “Bo” Parfet stays active in his local and national communities. YPO actively recruits speakers from its membership base (and outside experts) who can inspire new generations of leaders. Speakers can talk about a variety of topics, from business growth and innovation to personal development. In addition, speakers tackle often more personalized topics like succession planning in family businesses and strengthening familial relationships.

To become a speaker, individuals must first read through Engage and Inspire, a speaking guide published by the organization that outlines its particular culture and values. Next, they need to make videos of themselves describing the unique perspectives they can give to members. Potential speakers must also fill out profiles for the YPO Resource Directory, which is how they get connected to audiences. More information about the process is available at YPO.org.

Strategies for Investing Outside of the Stock Market

Denver-based author and investor Robert “Bo” Parfet is a part of the social entrepreneurial movement through Denali Venture Philanthropy, LLC in Boulder, Colorado. Robert “Bo” Parfet’s extensive experience in investing has culminated in him assisting organizations and people with finding alternatives ways to invest capital.

More evolved strategies of investing are rapidly becoming outdated and replaced by newer methods. Even in this day with using private equity funding and other investment vehicles as a strategy, newer, alternative methods make it possible for all types of investors to save without entering the public market.

Examples are good. Newer lending strategies include supply chain finance and asset-backed lending. Supply chain funding is a type of financing involving the business selling accounts receivable contracts to a third party at a discount. This allows the business to meet immediate cash needs.

Another example is asset backed lending, which involves a merchant bank, family office or person making a loan, and using an asset as collateral. These opportunities or investments are typically tangible assets, such as real estate.

Finally, investors can invest through commodity trading advisors, which invests in managed futures. Investing in managed futures involves paying attention to price fluctuations in some futures and options markets. Example commodities include energy, metals, foreign currency, government bonds, and agricultural products.

Impact Investing - Making Altruism Profitable

Mountain climbing is one of the interests of Colorado resident Robert “Bo” Parfet. After he finished his degree at Colorado State University near Denver, attended graduate school in Chicago and Michigan, and during several years on Wall Street, Robert Parfet decided to climb the world’s seven tallest mountains (by using his vacation days). From this experience, Robert “Bo” Parfet founded Denali Venture Philanthropy, an investment firm that specializes in impact investing.

Impact investing, which got its start just before the Great Recession of 2008, encompasses the ideals of corporate social responsibility but goes a step further. The purpose of impact investing is to reverse the negative effects of business on the environment by investing in products or services that have social or environmental benefits. Please note, there are many forms and types of impact investments.

The intentions of many who begin impact investing are pure, but data reveals that goodwill can translate into profitability too. For example, in India, approximately 50 investors have sunk more than $5 billion into projects in the past 10 years, and these investments are expected to grow at an annual rate of 14 percent and improves the lives of thousands & thousands of people and local economies.

According to Forbes, impact investing is also projected to grow in the next 10 years. J.P. Morgan reports that impact investing will comprise $400 billion to $1 trillion of investments that generate $183 billion to $667 billion by 2030.
